This French specialty (also traditional in Switzerland in the French speaking Canton Vaud) appears in pastry shops and homes everywhere on Jan. 6th celebrating Epiphany. The puff pastry crust filled with frangipane usually hides a surprise – as in my case I found a watch pendant! Who finds the surprise in their slice then becomes “the king (or queen) of the day”. In fact a golden paper crown usually accompanies this pastry.
